Real Madrid confirmed that Mateo Kovacic had come to Chelsea under a buy-and-sell deal after a year of loan.
Real Madrid have confirmed they have agreed to buy a £ 40m-rated Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea. The Croatian midfielder signed a five-year contract with the Blues.
Last season, Kovacic played for Chelsea as a one-year loan from Real Madrid. The 25-year-old played 51 times under Maurizio Sarri. Together they reached the Premier League goal in the top 3 and won the Europa League championship.
This summer, Chelsea must abide by a two-term transfer ban of the World Football Federation (FIFA). However, according to the law, they can still activate the purchase clause Kovacic has signed with Real Madrid before.
