After 21 years of hard work, Ashley Cole decided to hang shoes at the age of 38 and most likely will return to the old club Chelsea on a new position.

Right on the day that former partner Frank Lampard officially launched Chelsea fans in the Premier League, Cole announced retirement, ending the glorious career of one of the world's best left-backs.

Through television, Cole confessed his desire to become a coach after hanging shoes. "After thinking and pondering carefully, it's time for me to hang my shoes and head to the next chapter in my life, hopefully in the training. I'm learning a coach course and now I want to become a great military officer," Cole said.

And the first step in his career could start in Chelsea, where Lampard wanted to invite his longtime friend to be his assistant. Since the appointment of Lampard, Chelsea have pointed out a strategy to reuse old stars in new roles. Currently, Petr Cech has been appointed as a technical advisor. Besides, the door is also open for Didier Drogba, Claude Makelele and Paulo Ferreira.

Cole is expected to ask Chelsea for help in the process of completing the UEFA coach certificate. The Blues are in need of Cole's experience after going through the first three matches without winning, the latest is a 1-1 draw with Leicester.
